School visits

When I'm not busy writing, I go into schools to carry out workshops with the children. Schools can select a number of workshops held throughout the day for different year groups. I run workshopsfor all school ages and they are great fun if held with groups of up to three classes per session. That said, individual class workshops are great fun too!

For nursery and infants

Click Clack Crocodile's Back

A play, using the animals masks created in the workshop, with snazzy music and a crazy crocodile.

Here Comes The Crocodile

Powerpoint presentation with lots of sound and large visuals for all groups connected to the animal mask workshop.

Both workshops are suitable for ages 5–8 years old.

For years 2, 3 and 4

Stories from other cultures

Select from THE HUNT, mask making and a tale of a boy on a dangerous mission or CARVING THE SEA PATH, a tale of two cultures coming together through the lives of two boys living in the frozen lands of the arctic.

Sharks On The Loose

Masks and disguises come to life in this zany, fun tale, encouraging children to write about their own characters, heroes and create their own mask.

For years 5 and 6

Pitch Pond Curse

This workshop encourages interest in local history and changes in local environment, social development and is a scary ghost story too. Students create masks, hear the first part of the tale, then complete their artwork and build up to a tense and thrilling story end.

The Gift

Step into back through history to discover to a dark time when evil swept through the palace of the Pharaoh and learn about how a young girl survives to tell the tale.

Feedback from schools

A massive thank you for your visit! We had a fantastic day and the children were really hooked into reading with your inspiring assembly and engaging sessions. The children loved to hear about where you get your ideas for your writing, and many of our children are now aspiring to be authors because of your influence! It was great that you could share a range of books with the school, and focus of exciting texts which were appropriate for the year groups, including FS2 who were buzzing after the visit from a giant crocodile!! Thanks again for a great day which really helped to promote a love of reading and writing.
Coralie Corrin, Assistant Headteacher, Totley Primary School
A big thank you from all the staff and pupils at Cabot Primary School for a brilliant day listening to stories, being creative and hearing about where you draw your inspiration from. We have many budding writers and lots of enthusiastic readers here and they all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Year 4 especially loved hearing the rest of Beast Hunter and passing around the giant snake, and years 1 & 2 had a great time spotting the hidden dragonflies! So thank you again for providing inspiration for our children and we look forward to having you visit Cabot again soon!
Victoria Stevenson, Cabot Primary School
I wanted to write and thank you so much for your very successful visit to our school this week. It was wonderful that you could spend time with every year group from Nursery to Year Six. All the children were inspired by your stories and enjoyed hearing you read them and talk about being a writer. You spoke in a way that captivated all the different age groups. The children also loved the mask making activities as well as the opportunity to meet you after school to buy your books and get an autograph.
Teacher from a London school
We started the day with a whole school assembly, where Kathryn talked to the children about her books and in particular the different things that inspired her to write the books. The children really related to these ideas and this then inspired the whole school to write about their walks to school, based on Kathryn’s book Ruby’s School Walk. The children got a lot out of their hour session and the visit has definitely raised the profile of writing in the school.

On behalf of all the staff, we want to thank you so much for coming to visit us at Leatherhead Lodge on Tuesday. All the children loved meeting you and had a wonderful time listening to you read your stories. You have given our Reception and Year 1 children such inspiration to write their own stories that we have spent the rest of the week writing our own books! You were brilliant with the Nursery children and they were all engaged in their mask making activities.
Anna Bennett, Downsend School, Surrey
On Thursday 10th March, 18 lucky pupils got the opportunity to meet the wonderful author, Kathryn White. Kathryn is a very successful author of many books which have captured the hearts of hundreds of children whether they are having their first book read to them or they are starting secondary school. We got the chance to read some of her stories as well as write our own. Kathryn was very helpful and inspirational to us all and we would like to thank both her and the English department for such a great morning!
Sophie Drew, Year 9
Thank you so much for the day that you spent at our school. The children absolutely loved working with you and were inspired to produce their own books. The way that you captured their imaginations through a mixture of art work and reading stories is something that will keep them enthusiastic for a long time to come.
Year 2, Kingston Park
A big thank you, Kathryn for your time at KES Pre-Prep. The children had a wonderful morning full of imaginative play and creativity. You brought your characters to life in ways that truly captured the children’s imagination not to mention getting me to wear big yellow trousers and a floppy hat! Look forward to you coming back.
